Former Manchester United and Liverpool man Paul Ince has claimed that not a single United player would get in the current Reds team.

The two sides go head to head at Anfield on Sunday, and Ince doesn’t believe the Red Devils have the same quality of players as their opponents.

“If any United player could get into Liverpool’s starting XI, it would probably be David De Gea,” he told the Mirror. “But, then again, Alisson has been outstanding, so perhaps not even De Gea would make it.

“I don’t think [Jurgen] Klopp would swap any of his players for United players and that says a lot. Liverpool have the stronger squad as a whole, hence why they’re doing so well.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with much of what Ince says, here. It seems pretty clear that Klopp wouldn’t trade a single one of his players for what’s on offer at Old Trafford. Even De Gea, who was always the gimme for getting in any opposition team, is less certain in his status thanks to Alisson’s emergence. In terms of current form there’s no arguing that none of United’s players would get in this Liverpool team, however when you consider things in terms of pure ability it’s a different story. You still wouldn’t put many Untied players in the Reds side, but you could make a case that on their best day De Gea, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial could make the Liverpool team. That’s about it, though, and it’s a sad state of affairs for the Red Devils. We’ll have to see if they raise their game on Sunday, but Liverpool do indeed look miles ahead of their fierce rivals at this moment in time.
