Former Liverpool man Jason McAteer has credited midfielders James Milner and Jordan Henderson as being responsible for the team’s phenomenal camaraderie.

The Reds remain unbeaten in the Premier League following their 4-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, and McAteer spoke after the game about the fellowship evident at Anfield.

“You can see there’s a tremendous team spirit and camaraderie amongst the lads,” he told beIN SPORTS. “They all muck in together, they’re all looking out for each other.

“James Milner and Jordan Henderson, obviously they’re at the forefront of that and making sure that happens. And you can understand why from the careers they’ve had, they know what it takes to challenge – certainly James Milner,” he finished.

OPINION

It’s no surprise to see McAteer reveal Milner and Henderson as being key to the fantastic team spirit evident on Merseyside these days. Milner is obviously someone who has a winning mentality and is used to winning trophies from his days at Manchester City, while Henderson is the captain of the club and a born leader. We saw how much of an influence the former Sunderland man was on the England squad at this summer’s World Cup in Russia, and he’s continued that for his club side this season. It’s clear that everyone in Liverpool red is focused on the job at hand and are enjoying their football. It must be incredibly stressful trying to keep pace with this Manchester City side, but the team spirit at Anfield means that that doesn’t really show. They’re all working together to a common goal and they all get along well together and that’s extremely conducive to positive results on the pitch. We’re certainly seeing that borne out this campaign.
