Michael Owen has predicted that Liverpool will beat Napoli when the two sides face off in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Reds have left it until this final group game to assure themselves of a spot in the last-16, providing Paris Saint-Germain win against Red Star Belgrade – but the former England international has predicted a victory for his old team at Anfield.

Even though Liverpool have lost each of their away ties in this competition, Owen is confident that Klopp’s players will produce another “wonderful European occasion at Anfield.”

“Both sides warmed up for this massive tie with 4-0 wins at the weekend, but I feel the Reds will win what promises to be another wonderful European occasion at Anfield,” he said on his Bet Victor Blog.

“The Reds are unbeaten in 18 successive European home ties while Napoli have not won any of their last six away ties in the competition. It promises to be tense and one vital goal might be enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side.”

OPINION

Liverpool came so close yet so far in the Champions League last season so Klopp will no doubt want another attempt at winning the coveted silverware – however, that will only happen if they secure a win against Napoli on Tuesday. Yes,  the Reds were on the losing side the last time they faced the Italians, but at Anfield, they have every chance of progressing into the next round. Mo Salah has found his stride after a magnificent display at Bournemouth on Saturday and he will definitely be the key to winning the tie. If he can produce anything like he did at the weekend on Tuesday, then Napoli are in for a whole world of misery. Yes, Klopp has a few injuries to some of his key players, but with Sadio Mane fit for contention, luck seems to be on their side at the moment. The players need to step up after their dismal display against PSG, but after the Bournemouth clash, that should not be a problem.
