Danny Murphy raved about the potential of Liverpool defender Joe Gomez after hearing the news that the 21-year-old had signed a new deal with the club.

The BBC pundit, regularly seen on Match of the Day, shared that it was great news that the centre-back had committed his future to the Reds and shared that he thought the player had made so much progress in recent times.

Murphy dubbed Gomez the future and backed him to become an established member of England’s team due to being able to play anywhere in the back four.

“I think erm firstly great for the club, obviously that’s been going on a while the negotiations just cause he is injury, but it does show a lot of loyalty and he has done brilliantly since he has got in the team, he has progressed so much,” said Murphy on talkSPORT (Monday 10 December, 10:06am).

“He yknow is going to be, obviously the future there of course and probably become an established member of the England squad I imagine as he can play all across the back.

“So well done Gomez, super super talent.”

OPINION

The Reds confirmed via their official website that Gomez had agreed a new long-term contract and it’s so surprise that Murphy was quick to praise the club for sorting a new deal out for him. The 21-year-old is set for spell on the sidelines for the coming weeks after picking up an injury when playing Burnley, so it’s nice to hear some positive news regarding him. Gomez has been a key part of the Reds’ season so far, making 18 appearances across all competitions, and he will be missed while he is away from the team. It’s hard to disagree with Murphy’s remarks on the player as why he is an important member of Jurgen Klopp’s side currently, he is someone who will only get better with each passing game. Gomez is the future at Anfield as given his age, he will be a player the Reds can count on for many years to come.
