Image for Souness raves about Firmino

Graeme Souness revealed that he was a big fan of Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino and shared that he resembles Kenny Dalglish due to his creative vision.

The Sky Sports pundit described the Reds forward as a fabulous player before saying that the 27-year-old could see a picture in his head, referencing his creative vision, just like Reds legend Dalglish could.

Souness then complimented Firmino’s style of play by describing him as someone who plays amongst other player which means that his touch has to be great and that he must always be aware of his surroundings.

“He is a fabulous player, I’ve said this to you (Kelly Cates) before I’ve liken him to your dad (Kenny Dalglish) in terms of the picture he has, few people have that picture, he plays in amongst people, he plays in the box, touch has to be great, you have to be fully aware of what’s around you…” said Souness on Sky Sports Premier League (Saturday December 8, 12:20).

“He’s got a picture a few people have and I’m a big a fan of his.”

OPINION

This is huge praise from Souness as he is comparing Firmino to one of the most-loved Anfield legends. If the 27-year-old Brazilian heard Souness’ remarks he will surely be blushing from ear to ear to be compared or even mentioned in the same breath as Dalglish.  However it’s easy to see where the Sky pundit is coming from as Firmino is a sublime talent. The Brazilian’s form this season has been disappointing at times but his display against Bournemouth on Saturday was a notable improvement. Firmino may still be feeling the effects of having represented Brazil in the World Cup this summer, but it’s clear that once he is firing on all cylinders again then the Reds will be better for it. The 27-year-old has scored six goals in 22 outings so far across all competitions and will no doubt be aiming to significantly add to his talent in the near future. Hopefully he’ll be able to achieve that goal on Tuesday against Napoli as that is a huge game for the Reds in terms of their Champions League ambitions this season.
