Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold is being lined up for a contract extension with the club, according to The Times.

The newspaper claims that the 20-year-old is expected to be the next Reds star to put pen to paper, with a new deal for left back Andrew Robertson imminent.

The Scotland international is anticipated to sign a five year extension with Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Alexander-Arnold will be the next player to be rewarded for a fine season.

The youngster has emerged as an integral cog for both club and country over the past 18 months, and will soon have his Anfield future secured.

OPINION

These are two terrific bits of news for Liverpool. Firstly, the fact that Robertson is so close to an extension is marvellous. There are few Liverpool players who deserve a new deal more than the former Hull City man. Secondly, the club preparing fresh terms for Alexander-Arnold is excellent. For Klopp to tie down both his starting full backs to long term deals is extremely smart. The German has a terrific team in place at Anfield and he’ll want his side to remain in tact for the foreseeable future. Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past season and a half and must now be considered one of the finest right backs in the country. He is only going to get better in the coming years, and it’s vital that he enjoys his progression on Merseyside. This is a vital step towards that happening. Liverpool fans will be awaiting an Alexander-Arnold announcement eagerly.
