Liverpool youngster Rafael Camacho is set to go out on loan with Sporting Lisbon just days after making his Reds debut, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the versatile 18-year-old, who started at right back against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Monday, is on the verge of returning to his native Portugal.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is willing to allow the teenager to continue his development away from Merseyside, with his former side Sporting the ideal destination.

Camacho left Sporting when he was 13 to join Manchester City’s academy, before moving on to Liverpool in 2016.

OPINION

This is a move that makes sense for everyone involved. Klopp obviously earmarked the Wolves clash as being an opportunity to give Camacho his debut, and so delayed the decision to loan him out until after Monday’s game. Now that the FA Cup clash has come and gone, and after Camacho performed fairly well, the required next step for him is back at Sporting. Hopefully in Portugal he will get the first team football that he needs, while playing at a high level. He is firmly behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at right back for Liverpool and, while there are a number of other positions he can play in, he’s unlikely to get much first team football in those roles either. So for now a loan spell away from the club is ideal for the youngster, and he should flourish in the familiar confines of Sporting. Hopefully he comes back at the end of the season a much improved player.
