Liverpool have agreed a deal for assistant manager Zeljko Buvac to officially leave the club after eight months away, according to Sky Sports

The broadcaster claim that the club have confirmed the exit of the Bosnian-Serb, who has not been involved since April, although there is no confirmation on any of the club’s official channels.

Sky Sports report that there has been no reason given for the senior man’s exit, although it was claimed in April that he had left his post due to personal reasons.

Buvac has been replaced by Dutchman Pep Ljinders.

OPINION

An official exit has always been coming for Buvac, with a return never viewed as likely after he left the club ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Roma in April. Personal reasons were put forward as being behind the decision, but there were rampant rumours behind the scenes that Buvac had actually fallen out with manager Jurgen Klopp. The two men have worked together for 17 years, first at Mainz, then Borussia Dortmund and finally at Liverpool. Klopp was always full of praise for Buvac, who he called ‘The Brain’, and his exit is undoubtedly a blow for the Reds. Obviously they have responded from his exit really well, but you cannot understate how important Buvac has been to Klopp’s success over the years. At least after agreeing a deal for him to officially leave the club can now move on from this saga and focus on the matter at hand: winning the Premier League title.
