Liverpool will entertain offers for a new kit manufacturer in the near future, and will attempt to secure a deal worth around £75 million per season, according to the Evening Standard.

The Reds currently have in place a £45 million-a-year contract with American company New Balance, under the umbrella of Warrior, but that is set to expire in 2020, and CEO Peter Moore has suggested that the club will be happy to listen to offers.

Liverpool signed their deal with Warrior in 2012 but have enjoyed a marked upturn in their on field fortunes since then, and have seen their contract eclipsed by Chelsea, Arsenal, and in particular Manchester United, who earn around £75 million a season from their deal with Adidas.

It is believed that Liverpool will attempt to come to an agreement worth around that figure.

OPINION

It’s a huge sign of the progress that Liverpool have made under Jurgen Klopp that they are able to demand such a high price for the honour of making their kits. In 2012, Warrior could never imagined that they would be supplying shirts for a side that reached a Champions League final last year and that could win a title this season, but it’s a great indicator of the drastic turnaround that Klopp has overseen at the club. Kit manufacturers, in the grand scheme of things, don’t matter too much, but the fact that it is now regarded as a prestigious contract once again suggests that the Reds are back to being seen as one of the biggest clubs in English, and therefore European football. A few extra million wouldn’t go amiss in the transfer window either of course, but on the whole, this story should be taken as an exhibition of Liverpool rediscovering their big club swagger.
