Liverpool have confirmed that academy midfielder Matty Virtue has left the club for Blackpool on a permanent deal, with the 21-year-old joining the Tangerines on a two-and-a-half year deal, as reported on the League One club’s website. Virtue has been one of the stars of the Reds youth set-up in recent years, with the midfielder scoring goals on a regular basis across the academy age groups. That being said, at 21 years old, it has never really looked that likely that Virtue was ever going to break into the Liverpool first-team despite his obvious talent. An exit was always looking to be on the cards sooner rather than later for the midfielder, and that has finally come with this move to Blackpool. However, some Liverpool fans do not seem to agree with the decision to let Virtue leave for good, with some below hoping the club have included a buy-back clause in the agreement. It is unlikely that Liverpool did so, but it will interesting to see how Virtue gets on in the lower leagues.
