Liverpool are keeping tabs on Wolves captain and former youth star Conor Coady, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Wolves are preparing a fresh contract offer for their talisman in an attempt to fend off growing interest in the 25-year-old enforcer.

The Mail claim that Wolves are aware that Coady’s emergence as a Premier League performer this season needs to be recognised with a pay rise to bring him level with those who earn most at Molineux.

It is said that Liverpool are monitoring the situation with Coady, who played just once for the club before leaving in 2014, as are Arsenal.

OPINION

Despite Coady’s emergence at Wolves and him proving this season that he can perform in the Premier League, it would still be a big surprise to see him return to Liverpool in the near future. Obviously the 25-year-old has come on a long way since he left Anfield five years ago, but whether he is at the required level is still up for debate. He has been a regular for Wolves this season, who have been solid at the back, but the step up in quality required is a big one. Bringing back a Liverpool lad would no doubt be a popular move among supporters, but the key is whether Coady is up to the task. Clearly the Reds are not closing in on making a move for Coady or anything, with the club currently just monitoring the situation, but that could easily develop into a move if they decide they need reinforcements in the summer.
