Liverpool back up goalkeeper Simon Mignolet invoked ‘Braveheart’ as he issued a humorous response to left back Andrew Robertson’s contract extension with the club.
The club announced on their official website on Thursday that the Scotland captain had put pen to paper on a new long term deal with the Premier League leaders.
Mignolet was clearly delighted with the news, as he posted a GIF from the film ‘Braveheart’ in celebration on his personal Twitter account.
Mignolet’s response underlines Robertson’s status as one of the most popular members of Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad.

This is brilliant from Mignolet, and shows how loved Robertson is at Anfield. The Scot has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Liverpool, and it was no surprise to see Klopp hand him fresh terms. He has locked down the left back spot in the German’s team and is undoubtedly one of the finest full backs in the Premier League. At just 24 years of age it’s clear that he’s going to get better and better as time goes on – which is a scary thought for wingers in the top flight. He is a tremendous talent and it’s always good to have your best players secured on long term deals. He is an immensely popular figure on Merseyside, and it’s easy to see why. He comes across as incredibly humble and hard working, and he is as dogged a player as you’ll ever see on a football pitch. Hopefully he can continue to go from strength to strength in the coming years.
