Sky journalist Dharmesh Sheth claimed that Liverpool attacker Lazar Markovic would not be at the club next season.

The Sky Sports News presenter and host of the broadcaster’s TransferTalk podcast, as detailed on his official Twitter account, directly stated with the 24-year-old in the final six months of his contract then he won’t be at Anfield for the 2019/20 campaign.

“Markovic joined almost five years ago and hasn’t played under Jurgen Klopp, he won’t be at the club next season,” said Sheth on Sky Sports News (Monday January 7, 15:22).

Markovic may not have featured for the senior side this season but he has featured twice for the U-23s in the Premier League 2, racking up one goal in the process.

OPINION

It’s no surprise that the Reds aren’t going to stand in the way of Markovic’s exit, as it has seemed inevitable for a while. In fact it would be more of a turn up for the books if it emerged that the 24-year-old winger was set to be handed a new deal. Markovic is so far out of the first-team picture, it’s easy to forget that he actually is still at Anfield. The player’s exit looked like occurring in the summer at times but it just turned out not to be the case. You have wonder why Markovic’s exit didn’t occur as you feel the player should have been chomping at the bit to secure a move due to the fact it was clear in the summer that he’d barely feature this season. The 24-year-old is unlikely to add to the 34 appearances he has made for the Reds during his time with them before his contract goes in the summer. The biggest disappointment with Markovic’s exit being nearly upon Liverpool isn’t the fact he is leaving, it’s the fact the Reds weren’t able to get him off their books for a fee when they had the chance.
