Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is braced for offers from the MLS and is open to quitting Anfield and moving to the USA, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Wednesday [09:28am] that the 29-year-old is open to the idea of making the switch across the Atlantic despite the fact that he could be offered an extension on his current contract which expires in the summer.

The £120,000-a-week [Spotrac] ace is allowed to talk to clubs from abroad given the status of his deal with the Reds, and he is prepared to get offers from the MLS.

OPINION

Given that Sturridge is down the pecking order at Liverpool given the great form of players like Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, as move to a league like the MLS would not be a bad move for him. However, this is somewhere English players usually move to towards the ends of their careers, and seeing as Sturridge is only 29, he has definitely not reached that stage just yet. A move away from Liverpool does make sense, but he must consider moving to clubs much nearer to home, even if they are in Europe. He can be a fantastic striker if he is given enough first team opportunities, but who knows whether Liverpool will offer him an extension. This is something that he must consider very carefully if he is made such an offer by the Reds – is he willing to sit on the bench most of the time? If he is, then staying at Liverpool is the best option, if not, then he must consider a move away.
