Liverpool are looking painfully thin in terms of defensive reinforcements after a number of injuries, and the latest absentee may force them into reconsidering their transfer stance.

The Reds were not set to sign anyone in this transfer window, apart from acquiring a defensive midfielder on a cheap fee according to the Daily Record – but they must make a U-turn on this view, especially now that right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is the latest player to take to the sidelines according to the Echo.

His injury means that the likes of James Milner will likely have to deputise in the role until the youngster returns, as Nathaniel Clyne has gone out on loan at Bournemouth for the rest of the season.

They must look no further than Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in order to solve this problem.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United and Chelsea have joined the hunt for the 21-year-old’s services in the summer, showing just how highly regarded he is by the bigger clubs.

However, it is the Reds who must swoop for him this month instead.

He is the London club’s first-choice right-back and they will no doubt be braced for interest in him, but the lure of playing for one of the Premier League top-four will definitely be a major factor in getting him on the books.

Seeing as Alexander-Arnold is not always going be guaranteed the right-back spot, first team opportunities are not going to be too difficult to come by if he made the move to Anfield.

The defender is one of the Eagle’s best performers and the ace has demonstrated time and time again that he is excellent when sticking to his defensive duties – as well as going forward.

Liverpool need quality competition for the right-back spot, and Wan-Bissaka is definitely the player make the Reds the envy of their rivals.
