Liverpool are expected to terminate the loan agreement they have in place with Belgian club Gent early regarding forward Taiwo Awoniyi, according to the Daily Mail.

The national newspaper claim that the Reds are expected to cut the 21-year-old’s current loan spell short with all parties likely to agree about him spending the second half of his campaign somewhere else.

The Daily Mail report that the Reds are making the decision after Awoniyi’s loan spell at Gent had turned sour following the Belgian side’s appointment of new new coach Jess Thorup in October.

OPINION

As the Mail’s report stats Awoniyi signed a new deal with the Reds upon departing on loan in the summer and that implies he is highly rated at Anfield. Yet it seems that the 21-year-old forward hasn’t had the best of times as of late and it does seem the right move by the Reds to move him somewhere to ensure his development is safe. Awoniyi has played 22 times this season but has only scored three goals, so perhaps a change of scenery will do him the world of good. The attacker is at an age where it is pivotal that he is playing regular football as that’s the only he is going to improve in order to break into the Reds’ first team in the near future. Awoniyi has never featured for the Reds previously due to the club having trouble acquiring a work permit for him, which were referenced previously by the Liverpool Echo, so you feel they are very aware they need to have him at the right club in order to get the football he needs.
