A teammate of loan Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi has heaped praise on the 21-year-old, suggesting that he should be offered a contract for life.

The forward has been in red hot form during his temporary spell at Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, hitting five goals in is last six matches.

And his efforts have earned him the admiration of his new colleagues, with Mergim Vojvoda waxing lyrical about the Nigerian.

In an interview with L’Avernir, he said: “He should stay his entire life here. We have to offer him a 20-year contract.

“He’s an excellent player with great qualities. If you ask me, it didn’t work with Gent because he was always in the box. Taiwo is a forward who needs to showcase his power and sometimes come deep to find the ball.”

OPINION

High praise indeed for Awoniyi, and no doubt the kind of relentless run of form that will have made Jurgen Klopp’s ears prick up a little. The Nigerian hasn’t always hit the heights he promises to in recent seasons, but there’s no denying his blistering run of goalscoring heroics. That being said, he could score 60 goals between now and the end of the season and it probably wouldn’t help with the predicament the Reds find themselves in with regards to the 21-year-old’s future. Awoniyi doesn’t have a work permit, hence why he has spent the past four seasons out on loan, and it could well be seen as too complicated a matter to resolve for Liverpool to continue in their ownership of him. The only good thing would be that if it did come to selling him now, there is every chance that his sudden purple patch could attract a few more buyers when it does come to moving him on.
