Michael Gray has admitted that he is worried for Liverpool’s title hopes given their recent patchy form, and has suggested that the Reds don’t know how to win the league.

Jurgen Klopp’s men recorded a second successive 1-1 draw against West Ham on Monday night to leave the gap between them and nearest rivals Manchester City at just three points.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Sunderland full-back admitted that he was becoming concerned about the Reds’ title bid.

He said: “I’m starting to worry about Liverpool a little bit. In their last two performances against Leicester and West Ham I think they ran out of ideas, which is pretty alarming when we know how good Liverpool have been.

“Liverpool have not been in this situation for a few years, whereas Man City have been over the line and won the league. Is this Liverpool saying, ‘we don’t know how to win the league’?”

He added: “I worry for Liverpool in that if anything happens to their front three I don’t know where they turn.

“I looked at their bench last night, Xherdan Shaqiri is a decent player and Daniel Sturridge has got a couple of goals this season, but is he going to fill the boots of any of the front three?

“I didn’t actually realise their squad was so bleak. They have a lot of injuries right now.”

OPINION

Liverpool are going through a bit of a wobble at the moment, there’s no doubt about that, but things aren’t that desperate on Merseyside just yet. For starters, they are still at the top of the table, and for all Manchester City will be expected to overtake them when they face Everton tonight, the ball is still very much in the Reds’ court as far as their challenge goes. On top of that, they were always going to endure a rough patch at some stage this season, and all things considered, a couple of 1-1 draws against two pretty decent outfits isn’t that much of a disaster. Of course, if they now go out and lose to Bournemouth on Saturday, it will be panic stations, but for now, they are in command and may even view this brief spell of poor form as the catalyst needed to revitalise their run for the crown.
