Jurgen Klopp has suggested that he expects big thing from Rhian Brewster as the young striker continues to make his comeback from injury.

The 19-year-old has been out since last January with an ankle complaint, but his nearing a return to action, and featured during Liverpool’s warm weather training break in Marbella this week.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp gave an optimistic appraisal of the player’s future.

He said: “If you see him running, it’s good. Everything looks like it looked before.

“He grew as a person in that time and physically as well; he is a different stature when you look at him. Now he is a proper man. When he got injured, he was a boy. All will be good.

“With a little bit of luck – which you always need – we will have a lot of fun with him.”

OPINION

Everybody seems to be very excited about Rhian Brewster’s return, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be. The young striker was on a promising trajectory before his unfortunate injury put pay to his development, but he is back in training and by all accounts looks as sharp as ever. He clearly has the pedigree and the potential, and so in many ways it’s purely a case of him getting a chance to prove himself. That shouldn’t be too difficult in truth. Klopp is clearly a very big fan of his and has no issue with putting his faith in youth, as has been proven by the rapid ascension of Trent Alexander-Arnold, so there is n reason to believe that Brewster won’t get his chance in the first team some time in the very near future. It will be hard to break in ahead of the established front three, but right now Brewster doesn’t need to be playing week in week out, he just needs to be afforded the chance to grow as a player.
