Liverpool have jetted off to a warm weather training camp in Marbella this week, and the trip provides the perfect opportunity for young hitman Rhian Brewster to finally stake his claim with the first team.

The 18-year-old has been out for over a year with an ankle injury but is nearing a return to action, and could force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans with an impressive display during the Reds’ midseason break.

There’s no denying Brewster’s ability, but his youth and his dreadful luck with injuries has meant that any chances to force his way into Klopp’s first team setup have been extremely limited.

It feels as if there could be something of a sea change coming at Anfield with regards to attacking options, however.

Daniel Sturridge continues to be left on the periphery, while Divock Origi’s future is far from certain.

Roberto Firmino seemingly has the central striker role nailed down, but he will require back up, and should Sturridge, Origi, or both, leave at the end of the season, there is no reason why Klopp would not turn to his youth sides to provide cover.

The German is a firm believer that if you are good enough, you are old enough, and has given plenty of opportunities to academy graduates in the recent past.

The most obvious example of this is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has really stepped up as the Reds’ first choice right-back.

His rise has been meteoric, and while Brewster may not be expecting anything quite as dramatic, the teenager will at least be hoping to give his manager a bit of a headache for the future.
