OPINION

Seeing as Liverpool midfielder Fabinho was signed in the summer for £43.7 million, you would have thought that would be enough to assure him of a starting spot.

However, that did not seem to be the case at the beginning of the current campaign, as the 25-year-old was only handed five Premier League starts during this time.

The Brazilian has fought his way back into the first team since November, and since then he has been in excellent form, whilst also demonstrating his versatility by playing at centre-back for a few games due to injuries sustained by his teammates.

Nevertheless, it seems as though Fabinho has hit the nail on the hard in terms of his lacking of playing time earlier on in the season.

“I had the patience to wait for my opportunities. I think if it was up to me I would have been playing from the beginning,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“Maybe Jurgen could see something I couldn’t see, so not just conversations with him but all the staff helped me.”

If his recent form is anything to go by, Fabinho is absolutely right – as Jurgen Klopp did have the choice not to over look him during this time.
The fact that the midfielder feels he was able to play at his best during this time indicates that Klopp may have got some of his decisions wrong – and he will surely be kicking himself for not playing him sooner after these comments.
Fabinho could be in line to demonstrate his versatility yet again, as he may need to play at centre-back against Bayern Munich next Tuesday due to the number of absences on this area.
One thing is for sure though, Fabinho has got it absolutely spot on about his lack of playing time, as he has been in great form recently.
