Guillem Balague has refuted claims that Real Madrid are interested in Liverpool forward Sadio Mane.

The La Liga giants have been credited with an interest in the £100,000-a-week [Spotrac] Senegalese forward by France Football, but reliable journalist Balague has denied that there is any truth in the claim.

Speaking on his personal Youtube channel, he said: “Is Sadio Mane a target for Real Madrid? No.”

OPINION

This will be a massive source of comfort for Liverpool fans. Balague is a trusted voice when it comes to Spanish football, and if he says that Real aren’t interested, they probably aren’t interested. That being said, the form Mane is in at the moment, and the potential he has to drag Liverpool to a league title, is going to catch the eye no matter what, and with a squad overhaul seemingly needed in the Spanish capital, who’s to say that Zinedine Zidane won’t have his head turned by the prolific Liverpool man. Even if there were an interest, however, you would have to ask whether Mane would be tempted to jump ship at Anfield anyway. He seems happy, he is absolutely adored, and for the first time in countless years, Liverpool can justifiably say that they are one of the biggest and best teams on the continent. Madrid will always be a temptation, but the chances of this happening seem almost non-existent.
