Stan Collymore has suggested that the only thing that can stop Liverpool from reaching that last four of the Champions League is complacency.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been drawn against Portuguese giants FC Porto in the quarter finals of the competition, and former Reds striker Collymore believes that the tie is theirs to be lost.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, he said: “Barcelona are my favourites for the Champions League, which is why I expect only two English teams to make it to the semi-finals.

“Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Co will be too good for Manchester United in the quarters and Manchester City are overwhelming favourites against Tottenham and will win.

“Liverpool are the team which will join City in the last four, because the only thing that will stop the Reds beating Porto over two legs is complacency.”

You have to say that Collymore is right. On paper, there is no way that Liverpool shouldn’t be winning this tie, but that being said, this year’s Champions League has thrown up a fair few shocks already, and the Reds will be very wary of the potential for a relative upset. There are no bad teams in the Champions League, especially at this late stage in the competition, and Porto have already had to overcome some sizeable tasks to get to the last eight. Jurgen Klopp’s men will fancy their chances, and rightly so, but this will be no cakewalk, and with the pressure of a Premier League run in to contend with as well, it’s not unimaginable that the Reds could take their eye off the ball a little. At this point in the tournament, even the slightest mishap can be costly, and while Liverpool will be favourites over the course of two legs, stranger things have happened than an unexpected exit at this stage.
