Jordan Henderson could be a doubt for Liverpool’s clash against Tottenham on Sunday after picking up an injury on international duty, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reported via their live blog on Monday [07:52am] that Henderson, 28, is a doubt for England’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Monday and as a result, could also be a fitness worry for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the weekend.

Henderson has been a mainstay for Klopp this season, with the former Sunderland midfielder making 32 appearances across all competitions for the Premier League title chasers.

OPINION

It would definitely be a blow for Liverpool if Henderson was to miss the game against Spurs at Anfield on Sunday. The 28-year-old plays a major role in Klopp’s midfield and the German manager would surely want every single one of his players available for what is one of the biggest games of the season at the weekend. If Liverpool drop points against Spurs then their hopes of winning a first Premier League title will surely take a massive hit. Manchester City play relegation-threatened Fulham on Saturday, so could be a point ahead at the top of the table before Liverpool kick a ball. It is not ideal for Henderson to be out but at least Klopp has other options to play in the midfield. He may opt for Adam Lallana in his starting line-up, but against a team like Tottenham, Henderson would be a better pick because he is a bit more cautious and defensive-minded, which would help against a team with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in their midfield.
