Jordan Henderson has suffered an injury on international duty with England and the Liverpool captain is a doubt for Monday night’s clash against Montenegro, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that there are also doubts about the fitness of Jadon Sancho and Dele Alli ahead of England’s second Euro 2020 qualifier.

It is understood that the nature of their injuries are not yet clear but all three could miss the showdown in Podgorica on Monday, where Henderson is due to earn his 50th England cap.

OPINION

As long as Henderson’s injury does not rule him out of Liverpool’s clash against Tottenham on Sunday, fans will not be too bothered if he misses out against Montenegro. Henderson has been a key player for the Reds this season, earning 32 appearances across all competitions. He has had a couple of short spells on the sidelines so there might just be something there niggling away at him, so it is best that Gareth Southgate does not risk him on Monday night. England are expected to beat Montenegro with whatever team they put out. They are a team that are perhaps not as strong as Czech Republic, who the Three Lions hammered 5-0 last week with Henderson impressing in midfield. Jurgen Klopp will definitely be unhappy with Southgate if he risks his midfield for this one. Ross Barkley could definitely come in to replace Henderson if there is even a slight doubt about his fitness.
