Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier raved about the ability of Reds attacker Sadio Mane and compared him with Paris-St Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe in the process.

The 71-year-old shared that he first noticed Mane when the Reds player was 19-years-old and featuring at the 2012 London Olympics, before going on to claim that the 26-year-old had become one of the finest forwards in Europe.

Houllier suggested that Mane was as quick on the ball as Mbappe, who earns £290,000-a-week (Source: Daily Mail/ L’Equipe), and then revealed that he was delighted how the player’s career had unfolded.

“Mane in an ideal player for Liverpool,” Houllier told The People’s print edition (Page 53, Sunday March 24th).

“He has matured into one of the finest forwards in Europe.

“You can compare his speed on the ball with Paris St-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.

“I’m delighted for him.”

OPINION

Mane’s pace is one of his strongest attributes and it would be interesting to see him and Mbappe have a head-to-head race with the ball at their feet. The PSG superstar has wowed everyone was his amazing speed and tremendous talent, so it’s says a lot that Houllier believes Mane’s quickness on the ball is on par with him. However it’s no surprise that the former Reds manager is full of praise for Mane as not only did he spot his potential many moons ago, it’s hard not to rave about the Reds forward currently. Mane has been in red-hot form as of late as he has scored 11 goals in his last 11 outings. The 26-year-old’s goals are what are keeping Jurgen Klopp’s side in with a good chance of lifting either the Champions League or Premier League trophy, if not both, as it stands. Hopefully Mane will continue his recent good form after the international break as the Reds rely on him currently.
