Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane is likely out for the season after suffering a serious groin injury, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the 20-year-old is facing the prospect of his tremendous campaign on loan at League One side Doncaster Rovers being over.

Donnie boss Grant McCann revealed on Saturday that the Englishman will be out for around six weeks after tearing his groin.

The setback likely rules him out of the remainder of the regular season, although he could return for the play-offs if seventh place Doncaster reach them.

OPINION

This is a major blow to a young man who has enjoyed a phenomenal season in League One. He has been a near ever-present for McCann’s side and has rewarded his manager’s faith with seven goals and nine assists from midfield. Doncaster have struggled majorly in recent weeks and have now dropped out of the play off places altogether, and their season now looks to be on the brink of collapse after the loss of one of their key men. This is a real shame because the progress Kane has made this term has been undeniable. It would have been great for him to continue his campaign uninterrupted, but now it appears that his entire season could be over. Hopefully Doncaster do end up making the play offs and Kane gets a chance to come back, but that looks like a long shot at the moment considering their poor form. Still, the Liverpool faithful will be willing them on after this setback for Kane.
