Lescott: No Liverpool players get in Man City’s team

Former Premier League winner Joleon Lescott has surprisingly claimed that not a single Liverpool player would get into the Manchester City team.

The former England international won two league titles during a trophy-laden spell at the Etihad Stadium, and his City bias might have seen him go a bit too far here.

“Both [Pep] Guardiola and [Jurgen] Klopp will each be happy with their own team, and their players suit their styles of football,” he told Sporting Bet.

“I’m not sure I’d take a single one of Liverpool’s players for Man City’s team, but it’s fair to say both have put together great squads. From a Man City perspective, I have been very impressed with [Aymeric] Laporte this season, who has arguably made a similar impact to what [Virgil] Van Dijk has at Liverpool.”

OPINION

This is just absurd. Yes, Lescott is a former City player, but even he must realise that there are areas of the City team where Liverpool are superior. Alisson against Ederson is a toss up between the sticks, but the Liverpool man certainly seems to get the nod for Brazil anyway. Then there’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker, again 50-50, but worth of discussion. There’s no doubt, though, that Van Dijk and Andrew Robertson would get in the City team. Laporte has been good this season, but Van Dijk’s been better and, besides, in a combined eleven you’d just pair the two of them together at centre back, wouldn’t you? Midfield is City’s area of expertise, that’s fair, but you’d have to give all three of Liverpool’s attackers a shout of getting into this City team. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane certainly have an argument, that’s for sure. All in all, this was just a ridiculously biased statement from Lescott.
