Liverpool are interested in signing Middlesbrough teenager Bilal Brahimi, according to TEAMtalk.

The 18-year-old left winger has impressed for Boro’s youth sides this season, and made his first team bow in the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.

The Frenchman has been unable to agree a new deal with the club, however, and it is understood that he could be on his way out of the Riverside.

Liverpool are said to be keen on taking him to Anfield, but will face competition from Newcastle United and French side Rennes, who could hold the advantage in the race for his signature.

OPINION

This is a bit of a surprising one in truth. Brahimi looks bright, there’s no doubt about that, but he has made just the one first team appearance since arriving on Teesside in 2017, and for all his performances have impressed, he has just one goal and one assist in 13 Premier League 2 appearances this season. That being said, if the Reds are keen on him, there must a be good reason why. Jurgen Klopp doesn’t sign deadwood, and he fact that there are a host of sides said to be sniffing around would suggest that he could be a real prospect. Boro have always had one of the best and most prestigious academies in the country, and there was a time not too long ago when it seemed to be a conveyor belt of young talent that went on to great things. Brahimi may not be homegrown, but for the club to take him on he clearly has what it takes to cut it at a decent level, and while it may not br the big money move that catches everybody’s eye, if Liverpool could pull this one off it could turn out to be a real coup.
