Liverpool will send scouts to watch Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday when Slovakia face Wales, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet claims that every member of the Premier League’s big six will be in attendance to witness the 24-year-old in the flesh, surely hinting at a fierce impending transfer battle.

The centre back – viewed by his country as the natural successor to former Reds enforcer Martin Skrtel – is said to be up for grabs for around £30million this summer.

Inter clearly view his departure as inevitable and it feels as if the Premier League is his most likely destination.

OPINION

This is an extremely exciting piece of news for Liverpool supporters. In recent years Skriniar has emerged as one of the finest centre halves in Europe, right up there with the Reds’ own Virgil van Dijk. Now imagine putting the two of them together in the same centre back partnership. That possibility is a tantalising one for the Liverpool supporters, and would supply Jurgen Klopp with arguably the finest back four in Europe. Obviously it’s going to be tough to win the race for the Inter star with so many other top teams interested. However, Liverpool are well placed to attract world class talent these days. The two Manchester teams would likely be their fiercest rivals for Skriniar, but the Skrtel connection could give Klopp’s team the edge. The two Slovakian’s may well have discussed what it’s like to play in front of the Kop, and an encouraging word from the former Red could make all the difference here. Still, this transfer battle likely has a long way to go yet.
