John Motson heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson after his performance in England’s 5-0 win over the Czech Republic.

The legendary commentator shared he thought the Reds central midfielder had often come in for criticism over being a one dimensional player but that simply wasn’t the case.

Motson added that during his latest outing for England, Henderson proved he can pass the ball and be an attacking outlet for his side.

“Also alongside him Jordan Henderson wins 50th cap tonight, he’s another player who has often been a little bit maligned by England,” said Motson on talkSPORT (Monday March 25th, 14:38).

“I thought he played excellent on Friday and he does get forward, he can pass it, he does get ahead of the ball, all those things he got criticised for as being a one dimensional player, but you wouldn’t be one dimensional really if you’re playing for Liverpool.

“He’s not.”

OPINION

Henderson seemed to silence a few critics on Friday with his display for England and it seems every pundit under the sun is coming out the wood work to heap praise on the midfielder as a result. There’s no denying that Henderson is regularly criticised by fans and football experts alike, but the label of being one dimensional has always been a harsh one to associate with him. The 28-year-old may someones have to dig in deep for Jurgen Klopp’s side and submit a disciplined performance, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of being useful when going forward. Henderson has a decent passing range and through his vast experience knows how to carve out a chance. It should be no surprise to anyone that the midfielder is capable of wowing for his nation and you just feel a little sorry for him, that far too often he is torn apart by some fans for one reason or another.
