Stuart Pearce shared that in his opinion Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola currently had the edge over Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp if you were to compare the two.

The Sky Sports pundit, regularly seen on The Debate and Football Centre, shared he personally thought Guardiola was the better manager of the two and highlighted how the Man City boss had the trophies to prove his credentials.

Pearce acknowledged that Klopp had done fantastically well with the Reds but after not winning silverware for three seasons, he thought Guardiola should be currently seen as superior.

“That’s a real tight call, I would just air on Pep as he has won the trophies, he’s walked the walk with City and around the world,” said Pearce on Sky Sports News’ Football Centre (Monday March 25th), as seen in on a clip on the channel’s Twitter account.

“Klopp has done fantastically but for three seasons now he has won no trophy, and you get judged on your trophies.

“If he gets his hands on one or two trophies between  now and then maybe we’ll review again in the summer.

“Yeah I think Pep is the one at the moment, obviously his squad’s slightly better at City, but personally Pep is the better manager of the two.”

OPINION

The fact Pearce believes it is a tight call choosing between the two men shows how both clubs are lucky to have such talented managers holding the reigns. While the Sky pundit ends up giving Guardiola the bragging rights, as he points out he is clearly basing it on trophies. If Klopp was to rack up silverware in the next few seasons then that will sway the Guardiola-Klopp debate in his favour. While some may argue it’s hard to debate which manager is superior as both have been successful in their own way, trophies are the easiest way to separate them. However there will be some who will be more impressed by Klopp if he guides Liverpool to the league rather than Guardiola lifting the trophy with Man City, as just like Pearce said; there are some who think Man City have the slightly better squad. While this is debatable, those who think this will have no choice but to heap praise on Klopp. As it would be one thing for Liverpool to win the Premier League title but another to do while being perceived as not having the best squad in the division.
