Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has backed teammate Mo Salah to turn things around and rediscover his goalscoring touch.

The Egyptian has hit 20 goals in all competitions so far this season, but hasn’t found the back of the net since the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on February 9th.

Van Dijk is unworried by that fact, however, and believes that the 26-year-old will be back amongst the goals soon.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:”Mo is a world-class player.

“People can say all they want but I think all the teams in the Premier League would love to have him in their side. We have him and I think he is playing well.

“The goals will come. That’s something for a striker that is maybe going to be in your head but we tell him every time: you just need to keep working, keep going and you will be fine.”

OPINION

It will be reassuring for Salah to know that his teammates have his back during a difficult run of form, and the Egyptian king will no doubt be up and running again in the goals department very soon. This barren spell he is enduring has caught everybody by surprise, but it was always going to happen at some point, and thankfully, where he is struggling, Sadio Mane has stepped in the breach and is absolutely thriving. You get the feeling with Salah that once he gets one, the floodgates will open, and you could easily see him breaking his duck with a hat trick or something similarly impressive. Crucially, however, the rest of his all round game hasn’t dipped too much, and while the goals may not be coming as regularly as they were earlier in the season, the creativity and vision to put others into dangerous positions is as strong as ever. It’s surely a matter of time for Salah.
