While there are very few Premier League fans out there who look forward to the prospect of the international break, Liverpool supporters might have been hoping that the current two week hiatus from league games would never come to an end.

That is because they currently sit top of the table – albeit with an extra game played – in their battle with Manchester City and the Anfield faithful would love to bask in this position for a little while longer.

Unfortunately for the Merseysiders their reign at the top could come to an end if City over see basement boys Fulham – the side Liverpool played last – and the Reds fail to defeat third placed Tottenham.

It was hardly a vintage display from Jurgen Klopp and his men against the Cottagers with a number of performances leaving plenty to be desired – not least 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) star Adam Lallana.

The 30-year-old was kept in the midfield for his second successive start but did not show anywhere near enough to warrant him keeping his place in the side – which is why a potential injury blow to Jordan Henderson, reported by the Liverpool Echo (25/03, 07:52) would have had him breathing a sigh of relief.

Having the 30-year-old as a doubt for the clash against Tottenham would have meant Lallana would likely have kept his place regardless of how underwhelming he was last time out.

Unfortunately for the former Southampton man, Henderson shot down any fears over his fitness with 26 minutes of action for England in their win over Montenegro.

Seemingly fully fit ahead of one of the most crucial matches in their hunt for the title, Lallana must be sweating over his spot in the starting XI after a bang-average display in the club’s last game – Henderson very much the preferred option when available.

Only Klopp knows who he wants in the side but Lallana cannot be feeling too hopeful it is him.
