OPINION
It’s very easy to overlook Gini Wijnaldum in the current Liverpool side. Surrounded by world class attacking talent and gargantuan defensive stars, the Dutchman is perhaps seen by many as the unglamorous weak link in Jurgen Klopp’s team, the one you would look to replace with a big money addition to bolster your ranks. In fact, the Reds did just that with the signing of Naby Keita last summer, but there’s a reason that the 24-year-old has been unable to displace the former Newcastle United man. Quite aside from the fact that Keita has been relatively poor since moving to England, Wijnaldum has been getting stronger week by week, and he’s approaching a status now verging on the undroppable. Sometimes it can take a bit of distance and space to properly appreciate what you have, and many Reds fans will have been blown away by just how good their man was against Germany in his nation’s Euro 2020 qualifier on Sunday evening. Wijnaldum laid on the assist for Memphis Depay’s equaliser, and while the Netherlands would still lose 3-2, the midfielder really caught the eye with an energetic and combative performance. He seemed to everywhere at once, and Liverpool supporters will have taken great delight in watching him light up the international stage in the manner that he did.

Wijnaldum's quality isn't he? Sometimes it's hard to recognize when they play for your team and you see them every week; remember seeing Xabi Alonso for Spain and thinking the same thing! #NEDGER #LFC

Wijnaldum is so good. Such an industrious performance in all the midfield roles. We are lucky to have him.
