Georginio Wijnaldum seems to have a real issue with playing away from Anfield. The Dutchman has rightfully earned his place as one of Jurgen Klopp’s go to men in the centre of the park, but he seems to really struggle to replicate his home form on his travels. It’s a trend that Liverpool fans are picking up on more and more, and one that reared it’s head against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. It was a strange game for the Reds in many respects, as they scrapped their way to a battling win in which they never seemed to hit full stride. In amongst that win there were a fair few underwhelming performances, but chief amongst them was the shift put in by Wijnaldum. For large swathes of the match, the 28-year-old was missing in action, and when he did pop up, he more often than not misplaced his passes or looked cumbersome in possession. At the end of the day it didn’t matter too much, but his manager will be hoping that he can put an end to his concerning lack of form on the road. He will no doubt get plenty of opportunities to redeem himself, but those chances will run out at some point.
