OPINION

Liverpool attacker Mo Salah has not reached the glorious heights of last season, but he will no doubt be forgiven for this considering the position the Reds now find themselves in.

They are within touching distance of the Premier League title, and they must be doing something right, as Manchester City had already won the league this time last season.

The 26-year-old has scored 20 goals in 41 goals this season, which in itself is a not a disappointing figure in the slightest. People go on about how he has not been scoring as much, but most clubs can only dream of having a player who can 20 or more a season.

Nothing compares to the 44 goals he scored in 52 appearances last term. In fact, it is going to be hard job to live up to that achievement. The fact that we are talking about how 20 goals is not enough is actually rather ludicrous – the season is not even over yet.

However, there will still be Liverpool fans who have not been completely satisfied with Salah this season, and to be honest, they do have a point. A prolific goalscorer should be able to replicate their tally year after year.

This is why they will be hoping and praying that Ian Rush’s prediction on the Reds mainstay comes true – he says that it will not be long before Salah grabs some goals to add to his tally.

“He’s had a quiet period but he is still playing well. He is not scoring what he would like but his time will come. He has been getting one or two chances but they have just not been going in,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“If one goes in off his backside you will see him back among the goals. I am not disappointed because although he has not scored, his all-round play has been very, very good.”

They will have their fingers crossed that he does come good, because if he starts firing on all cylinders now, Liverpool’s bid for the title could be seriously boosted.
