Liverpool are not a team with too many obvious holes in their squad, but they will soon have a few issues to deal with once we reach the end of the season.

Good squads need quality back up players and, while the Reds currently have that, they will likely be down a few come the summer, most notably striker Daniel Sturridge, who is out of contract in a few months time.

Jurgen Klopp must find a replacement for the England international, and who could be better than Fulham frontman Aleksandar Mitrovic. We all know the Cottagers are going down, that’s pretty much set in stone at this point, and it’s just not feasible for them to keep Mitrovic once they’re back in the Championship.

The 6ft 2in Serbian international [Source: Transfermarkt] has impressed hugely for Scott Parker’s side this campaign, bagging 10 goals despite playing for one of the worst teams in the Premier League.

These sorts of strikers, ones who excel for doomed teams, almost always get snapped up quickly by Premier League sides once they drop into the second tier – think Loic Remy, Salomon Rondon and Charlie Austin.

Mitrovic will almost certainly have his name added to that list soon. And while he’s perhaps not an obvious Liverpool-type player on paper, his different playing style is what would make him a fine fit at Anfield.

We have seen in recent months that the Reds don’t always have the cutting edge required to break down stubborn teams. When their top attacking players aren’t at it they struggle to make the breakthrough.

Adding Mitrovic would alleviate that problem. When Plan A of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane isn’t working, turn to Plan B of having your excellent crossing full backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson whip enticing balls into the imposing Mitrovic.

The Serb would give Liverpool something different, an alternative strategy for when Klopp’s primary mode of attack isn’t firing on all cylinders. It feels like a no-brainer, and is certainly the sort of move that would get Anfield rocking. It’s worth picking up the phone at least, isn’t it?
