Virgil Van Dijk – a name that can often strike fear into the oppositions strikers on a regular basis.
Can you really blame them? Standing at an almighty 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt], the Liverpool defender is a great physical presence and is arguably the reason why the Reds’ back four is so watertight at the moment.
There is without a shadow of a doubt that he is a serious contender for player of the season.
This obviously makes him a firm favourite amongst the fans, but it also makes him a prime target for Europe’s biggest clubs and beyond, and it would not be surprising in the slightest if he attracted attention this summer. If there is one thing Liverpool fans are afraid of, it is definitely the prospect of one of their best players leaving.
However, there is no doubt that many Liverpool fans will be loving what former Holland defender Mario Melchiot has said about the 27-year-old’s future at Anfield.
“It’s too early for them to even worry about that. I don’t see Van Dijk considering moving away from them yet. The rumours were that they were going to extend his deal because of course there were some big clubs eyeing him,” he told the Express.
“I don’t think he is already looking at it and thinking he’s desperate, no. He’s just got there.”
