When you have the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah ahead of you in the pecking order at a team like Liverpool, you are going to grab every opportunity that comes your way.

That philosophy no doubt applies to striker Divock Origi, a player who has been sitting on the fringes of the Reds team this season due to the brilliance of his attacking teammates.

He has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring three goals in the process, but the likelihood of him making the starting XI is very slim and would possibly take a miracle.

The 23-year-old recently admitted to the club’s website that he is willing to play anywhere the manager puts him in order to play as much as possible.

“I focus on what I can do to help the team in whatever capacity that is. I just have to stay positive. I know that we have big goals so whatever role I am asked to play, I am happy to do that,” he said.

“Of course I am ambitious and I want to play as much as possible but the most important thing is our team and the team goals.”

It is encouraging to see the youngster keen to do well for his team, of course it is, but there seems to be a slight sense of desperation in these comments.

Origi’s main position is a striker – it is as simple as that really.

If he plays out of position, surely that it is denting his chances of playing at his absolute best, right?

Seeing as Klopp has other choices to call upon both up front and on the wing, it does not seem likely that Origi is going to be given the chance to play wherever the manager wants him too.

In all honesty, he really needs to go out on loan this summer to unleash his true potential – he cannot just hang around waiting to be called upon.
