If you are an eagle-eyed Liverpool fan, you would have noticed that midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has been absent for a little while.

He was a rather prominent feature in the team not long ago, popping up here and there to chip in with goals that ultimately led the Reds to securing all three points from a match. However, that could not be further from the truth at the moment.

The 27-year-old has been absent for a little while, and many Liverpool supporters are no doubt wondering why Jurgen Klopp has decided to leave out such a creative and versatile force from the team.

The £80,000-a-week [Spotrac] ace must be sweating about his first team place after this mini exile, and rightly so. The fact that Klopp evidently does not trust him enough to play a part in the season run-in must be rather disheartening for him – after all, he has proved in the past that he is able to come off the bench and make a vital difference.

The Liverpool Echo suggests that the manager has kept him out of the team in recent times due to the fact that his type of play brings more chaos than it does control. In other words, Klopp does not want to risk Shaqiri when the team have something to lose, as defeats are the last thing he wants at the moment.

The report also adds that him being rather ineffective in his last appearances against Manchester United and West Ham could be a deciding factor too.

Nevertheless, the Swiss international will still be gutted that he does not have a bigger role at the moment. It could have been the perfect platform to prove Klopp wrong, but then again, he does not want to risk losing points at this stage.

Either way, he is surely sweating buckets about his first team future.
