Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has revealed that he consulted Reds attacker and Brazil international teammate Roberto Firmino before deciding to move to Anfield.

The two have known each other for years from their time with their national team and it was the former Hoffenheim man Alisson turned to when deciding whether to join Jurgen Klopp’s team or not.

“I spoke to Roberto and others before I came here and they told me about the British and that the people are very organised,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“He told me how things run in the club and that the emphasis is all about football so there were not too many mysteries. It’s a very good life with a very good team. For me it was an important step in my career.”

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Alisson turned to his fellow Brazilian when deciding whether to move to Liverpool or not, and Reds fans everywhere will be very pleased that he did. The former Roma man has been a phenomenal purchase, turning what was a real weakness of the team last season into a genuine strength. He has been one of the main reasons why Klopp’s team have gone from top four contenders to Premier League title challengers this time round. There was a lot of pressure on the 26-year-old due to the money he cost the club, but he has handled it admirably. He’s made a couple of small errors but that’s to be expected in someone’s first season in English football. Plus, it’s easy to forget how young the Liverpool shot-stopper still is. He’s only going to get better as the years get on – he’s not even in his prime yet. That’s an encouraging thought for Reds fans, and a very disconcerting one for opposition strikers.
