Andy Cole revealed he told Jamie Carragher that he believes Liverpool’s lack of Premier League title-winning experience was starting to show after they beat Tottenham.

The former Manchester United player was asked for his opinion on the Reds after witnessing them beat Spurs 2-1 and revealed that he had previously informed Carragher about his concern over the lack of title-winners in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Cole pointed out that as far as he knew it was only Reds midfielder James Milner that had previously won the Premier League title.

“I thought in the first half, I thought Liverpool played really well, got themselves a goal in front,” said Andy Cole on Monday Night Football (Sky Sports Main Event, April 1st, 19:34pm).

“In the second half, Tottenham changed their system and caused them a hell of a lot of problems, and I said to Jamie I think it’s only Milner that has won the Premier League and to a certain extent it’s starting to show as they’re not very fluent.

“They’re scraping victories, you get to this stage of the season what you have to do anyway, but at start of the season they were so fluid up front and getting goals.”

OPINION

While the Reds did show a few nerves against Tottenham when they were pegged back to 1-1 during the match, at the end of the day they got the win. While Cole believes the lack of Premier League winners in the squad is causing the Reds to be affected in the high-pressure race for the title, it’s hard to say that confidently. Even teams that have been there, done that, and got the tshirt when it comes to lifting the league trophy can crack under pressure. If Klopp’s side had more players that had won the Premier League would it really make a difference? It could be argued having players that haven’t tasted glory in England helps them. Several Reds players are desperate to win their first Premier League winners medal as they haven’t got one, so they’re extra motivated to have one in their trophy cabinet. It’s understandable why Cole made this suggestion, but it really doesn’t seem like that’s a factor.
