Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that ‘destiny’ is against Liverpool in their bid to win the Premier League title.
Manchester City’s nervy 1-0 win over Burnley on Sunday saw them retake top spot, and Wenger feels that Jurgen Klopp’s side might just miss out on this season’s top prize.
“There’s still hope but they go to Newcastle and Newcastle is not an easy place for Liverpool,” he told beIN SPORTS. “I’m scared for Liverpool that even with one game to go Manchester City could already have won the championship in the next game.
“They will fight until the end. It looks like there is a little bit [of] destiny that is against Liverpool. They dominated for such a long period English football and suddenly ’89/90 until today, they cannot win the Premier League. Every time there are small things against them.”

OPINION
City’s win over Burnley on Sunday was a real blow to Liverpool, there’s no doubt about that. Sean Dyche’s side frustrated the Citizens for large periods of the contest but, as champions do, they found a way to get the job done through Sergio Aguero’s second half strike. Wenger obviously feels like Pep Guardiola’s team are the favourites and rightly so. There are just two games to go this season and the title remains very much in City’s hands. So that’s why Wenger seems so downbeat about the Reds’ chances. As he says, small things have gotten in the way of a Liverpool title win in the past. They somehow missed out on the league having lost only a couple of games under Rafael Benitez, while everyone remembers Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip against Chelsea. So history is against Liverpool. However, it’s not over until the fat lady sings, as they say.
