Former Premier League winner Chris Sutton has aimed a dig at Liverpool after their win over Southampton on Friday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were put through their paces by a resilient Saints team who went 1-0 early on in the first half thanks to Shane Long, but Naby Keita managed to equalise in his first goal for the Reds.

Mo Salah netted the winner ten minutes from time before Jordan Henderson put the game to bed to make it 3-1 – but Sutton could not resist making a dig at Liverpool.

“Liverpool 3-1 really lucky again…”, he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Chris Sutton has got a valid point here. This win over Southampton will no doubt go down as one of their most nervy moments of the season. If the score had remained 1-1, then the Reds would have lost a lot of ground in the title race, and to be honest, they did not play at their best o Friday. Their midfield was all over the show and their defence was the shakiest we have seen it this season. Liverpool are “really lucky”, just as he has pointed out, and they find themselves in the fortunate position of being at the summit of the table going into the weekend. Manchester City will still have a game in hand over them, but the fans will no doubt love the fact that they are at the top for a little while. Losing this game would have had dire consequences, but luckily their determination paid off in the end.
