Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has claimed that Manchester City have the edge over his old team in this season’s Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side have become used to lifting English football’s top prize in recent years, and Evans believes that their title-winning experience could be key.

“City have a little bit of an edge because they’ve won it before and once you’ve won it, it gives you the confidence to go on and do that,” he told talkSPORT.

“Liverpool are showing a really great spirit. Everyone’s got to win all of their games to win it. It would be fantastic for the fans, they’ve been loyal through the good and the bad times.”

OPINION

It’s a bit of a surprise to see a former Liverpool manager like Evans come out and essentially say that City are in pole position for the title. Obviously Evans is supporting the Reds and he wants them to be the one’s that win it, but you wonder why he felt the need to say that City have the edge. It might be true, but still, why? He does have a point, though. City are tried and tested when it comes to winning the title. They have, by and large, been the dominant force in English football over the past five years or so. They know what it takes to win trophies and their manager certainly does, too. Having said that, Liverpool just won’t go away. They came through a major gut check when they went down against Southampton on Friday, showing that they undoubtedly have the appetite for the title fight. It’s going to be tight, it will almost certainly go down to the wire, but any edge City might have is quickly being eroded.
