Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will recall central midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita against Cardiff City on Sunday, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that Klopp’s plan is to start both the players in central midfield, after selecting them on the substitute’s bench against Porto on Wednesday night.

Barring any late injuries that will be the case in the Welsh capital, with the starting spots of Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner surely under threat as a result.

Both Henderson and Keita have produced their most outstanding form of the season in recent weeks, with the former, in particular, shining in a more advanced role.

OPINION

This makes a lot of sense from Klopp having dropped both midfielders to the bench in mid week. It was clear when the Porto team sheet was revealed that the German had one eye on this Sunday’s fixture and that was likely why two players in excellent form – Henderson and Keita – were dropped for Wednesday’s game. To be honest, it worked out perfectly for Klopp. His team went out and beat Porto comfortably, with Henderson and Keita getting some valuable rest time for much of the evening. However, it’s imperative that they both return to the starting line up on Sunday. Wijnaldum and Milner both struggled to get much going against the Portuguese giants, doing their own chances of starting against the Bluebirds no good whatsoever. With Henderson and Keita playing so well it would be a monumental surprise were they not to start on Sunday. Luckily it doesn’t seem like that will be the case.
