Martin Keown suggested that Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino was the most underrated player in the Premier League.

The former Arsenal defender shared that perhaps the 27-year-old should be consider the most underrated player in England’s top-flight before hinting that the work he puts in goes under the radar.

Keown revealed he thought Firmino was the perfect player to feature alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as he was the link between them and the club’s midfield.

“He is perhaps the most underrated player in the Premier League due to the work rate he puts in… he links up play,” said Keown on Football Focus (BBC One, Saturday April 13th, 12:08).

“He is the foil for those two players, Mane and Salah, they have the real pace.”

OPINION

Firmino doesn’t get the credit he deserves and it’s fair to say there will be many Liverpool fans agreeing with Keown’s suggestion. While the pundit makes sure not to conclusively declare the Brazilian the most underrated player in the Premier League, by even suggesting it, it shows how he feels about the player. Firmino has scored 15 goals, while registering eight assists, in his 43 outings this season and his general work for the team has helped them rack up victory after victory. At times the 27-year-old has dropped really deep during games in order to help his side defend and his work shouldn’t go unnoticed. You feel Jurgen Klopp appreciates Firmino’s efforts and is no doubt pleased with how much ground the forward appears to cover during games. Hopefully the 27-year-old has enough left in the tank to keep putting in the work in the matches that remain this season.
