Jurgen Klopp has offered an update on Liverpool Jordan Henderson’s fitness, suggesting that the midfielder is fine.

The 28-year-old assisted the Reds’ opener and put in a wholly impressive display in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, before being withdrawn with an ankle complaint late in the second half.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp was quick to quash any talk of a potential absence after what was a worrying sight for the Anfield faithful.

He said: “He got a knock on his ankle, that’s pretty much all. He was fine after the game.

“A bit of pain, no problem, [he] didn’t twist [it]. It’s only painful, not a problem.”

OPINION

This will be a huge relief for Liverpool fans, who will have been worried sick about the prospect of losing their captain given his current run of form. Henderson put in another gargantuan performance on Sunday, leading by example from his new, more advanced role, and bagging himself an assist in the process. Perhaps just as important, although slightly less obvious, was the decoy run he made in the build up to Mo Salah’s stunning second, a clever piece of movement that opened up the pocket of space that the Egyptian was able to capitalise on so spectacularly. This was Henderson at his very best, and the thought of losing him with such an intense run in on the horizon will have had the Kop sweating buckets. Lucky for them, and for him, he is fine, and everybody can rest a little easier in the knowledge that he can keep this purple patch going.
