Liverpool could target a summer move for Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Italian international, who is a four-time Ligue 1 title winner from his time with Paris Saint-Germain, could be drafted in to replace back up ‘keeper Simon Mignolet.

The 31-year-old is widely expected to leave Anfield at the end of the season in search of first team football, having been relegated to a handful of cup appearances this term by the arrival of Alisson last summer.

The Echo’s report states that Sirigu was linked with the Reds three years ago. However, at 32 years of age he is approaching the twilight of his career and could now be tempted by the lure of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

OPINION

Mignolet will surely almost certainly leave Liverpool this summer having been a good solider amid the team’s Premier League and Champions League pursuits this season. He knows that Alisson is the better ‘keeper and evidently Klopp’s first choice, but he won’t want to endure another campaign like this one. That will leave a void at Anfield going into next season, with Loris Karius at Besiktas for another year. Klopp will need to recruit a new number two shot-stopper and Sirigu would be as good a choice as anyone. He has been in tremendous form for Torino this season and he has experience of playing for a top club from his time with PSG. He won’t be overawed by Liverpool and will push Alisson all the way for a starting spot. Whether the Italian would want to sacrifice first team football for what will likely be a bench-warming role on Merseyside remains to be seen, but he’d be a fine pick-up for the Reds nonetheless.
